Tree Stump Removal and Stump Grinding.
Now that we’re all stuck at home, we’re paying more attention to the inside and outside of our houses. That includes our lawn. Most of us don’t want to look at decaying tree stumps because they are unsightly and attract termites and carpenter ants. They can also make it difficult to cut grass and can be dangerous to children playing in the yard.
Tree stumps can also prevent you from planting anything near them because the roots get in the way. It can take more ten years for the stump to deteriorate, so you might prefer to get rid of it.
So, here’s the question, do you remove the stump, or grind it? What’s the difference?
Stump Removal
Stump removal is the process of digging out the decaying stump and all its roots, leaving the surrounding yard completely flat, beautiful, and ready for replanting. After the stump is removed, there will be a hole where the roots and stump were uprooted which needs to be filled. This process is more time consuming than grinding, therefore more expensive, but once completed, it is very aesthetically pleasing.
Stump Grinding
When a stump is grinded rather than removed, a grinder is used to shred the stump into small woodchips. Stump grinding leaves the roots of the tree behind, which can be anywhere from four to twelve feet around the stump. This makes it impossible to plant anything within this radius.
However, people often choose to grind a stump for environmental reasons. They will mix the wood chips with dirt which makes good compost for flower beds. It can also be used to create a compost pile.
Lastly, stump grinding is less costly than uprooting the stump.
